We mourn the passing of

Dr. John C. Bellamy
IPITEK's Senior Vice President, Telecom & Information Services, Emeritus

A great friend, colleague and leader. His legacy will live on through the profound influence he has had on Telecommunication Technologies around the World and on those around him. He will truly be missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s family

John was associated with IPITEK since 1985. He had over 40 years of experience in telecommunications and data communications product development - as an individual contributor, manager, and as a senior executive. When John received his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1965, he was the third generation to receive an engineering degree from the University of Wyoming. After receiving his MS and PhD from the University of Arizona, he then went on to work with Arthur Collins, and later at Collins Radio, Rockwell International, and several other companies that spun off of Rockwell and became parts of other corporations such as Data General and United Technologies. Earlier in his distinguished career, he was responsible for the design and development of many major systems for digital switching, microwave transmission, cellular telephones, optical fiber networks, digital signal processing, and packet data based networks.

Starting in mid 1985, John taught "Digital Telephony" to many of our engineers at IPITEK, using the earlier edition of his book. He also lectured as an adjunct professor in the electrical engineering department of Southern Methodist University where he taught courses in telecommunications and computer programming. In January 2000, the third edition of John's seminal book on digital telecommunications Digital Telephony was published. By most accounts his book is considered as the bible of how the digital telephone network works.

Over 50,000 copies of Digital Telephony have been published worldwide and the manuscript has been translated into many languages including Japanese and Russian. To his credit, John had received over a dozen patents in communications systems technology. Among other noteworthy awards, John received the 1996 Fred W. Ellersick Prize Paper Award for the best tutorial paper, "Digital Network Synchronization," in 1995 in the IEEE Communications magazine, and in 2005 John was inducted to the University of Wyoming College of Engineering Hall of Fame which was established to recognize outstanding graduates who have distinguished themselves nationally or internationally through their professional achievements and leadership in engineering.

For those of us who worked closely with John, we will remember his incredible intellect, his sharp mind, his intense care, and his gifted ability to clearly articulate complex problems in easy to-understand terms that he brought to our team. His loss is truly a tragedy for all of us at IPITEK.

We can only offer our condolences and prayers to his family. They will all need our thoughts, prayers and support in these difficult times.
